(UPDATE, 2:45 p.m.) John DuBose, the Centerville Public Schools superintendent, said the school implemented Shelter-in-Place procedures at 8:45 a.m. at the recommendation of law enforcement.

DuBose said the measure was taken as a caution, noting there was no point at which the school was in danger or a target.

He said there was a "potential external situation" in the community, and school officials opted to close and secure the school.

During the incident, the school maintained regular class schedules, including changing classes; the only adjustment to the daily schedule was not allowing PE or Recess outside.

DuBose said they maintained this approach through the end of the school day and will resume normal activities on Thursday.

We are trying to get details from the Cascade County Sheriff's Office about the situation.

We will update you if we get more information.
