The Grace Home Veterans Center in Great Falls, a nonprofit that helps veterans, is asking for the public’s help.
The Grace Home’s garage is falling apart and Jennifer Lehlem, director of charities for St. Vincent de Paul, said that a rainstorm last fall caused the roof to start caving in. After that, the wind began to tear the roof off.
Veterans use the garage as a work space for different projects, but were unable to use the garage over the winter.
Lehlem said they applied for a grant through Leadership Great Falls and have since learned they received it.
However, the group is still $20,000 short of their goal to finish the project by June.
"We are going to have three separate spaces. The first will be a workout area with gym equipment so our guys can get their exercise on," Lehlem said. "The larger section is a work therapy area. We will have several different work stations so our guys can come in and use tools. They can get out of the house, get away from their roommates, and decompress."
The third area will help house homeless outreach program items.
Leadership Great Falls will hold a Splash for Cash event at the Sip ‘n Dip Lounge on Thursday, May 3 at 5 p.m.
There will be door prizes and people can donate money to help keep community leaders out of the pool.
