A Great Falls man who broke into a church in 2015 has changed his plea.
Eric Robert Haas pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of burglary.
In June of 2015, Haas broke into Our Saviors Lutheran Church at 1236 1st Avenue North.
Court documents when officers arrived they saw a man with a large bag of item.
He ran away when officers tried to make contact.
Officers later found Haas hiding in an upstairs room under a table.
According the to the plea agreement, a theft charge will be dismissed.
(JUNE 1, 2015) Eric Robert Haas of Great Falls has been charged with felony burglary for allegedly breaking into a church.
Haas is accused of breaking into Our Saviors Lutheran Church at 1236 1st Avenue North.
According to court documents police were called to the church at about 1:50 a.m. on Monday, June 1st, for a complaint of breaking glass.
When officers arrived they saw a broken window on the ground floor of the church. Court documents say officers saw a man with a large bag of item who ran away when officers tried to make contact.
Officers found the suspect — later identified as Haas — hiding in an upstairs room under a table.
In a police interview, Haas reportedly told investigators that he was working with an accomplice to make some easy money.
There is no word yet on whether the alleged accomplice has been caught.
Haas is also charged with two misdemeanors: possession of burglary tools, and criminal mischief.
Court documents state that Haas is currently on parole for arson and burglary in Lincoln County, and was convicted in 2007 on a charge of assault with a weapon.
Prosecutors requested that bond for Haas be set at $25,000.
