Areas of north-central Montana are under Flood Warnings and Watches as warmer temperatures cause continued snowmelt in many parts of the region.

The National Weather Service has confirmed reports of water over roads in several locations, which has made some roads impassable particularly near culverts.

Heidi Rodriguez Billmayer reported severe flooding at her home near Brady.

Billmayer said she and her family have to use either a tractor or four-wheeler to leave as water is running across the road in some sections.

According to the National Weather Service, Flood Warnings are in effect for the Milk River near Harlem and Big Sandy Creek near Havre.

The following counties are under a Flood Advisory: Pondera, Teton, Toole, Glacier, Liberty, Hill, Choteau, Blaine, Judith Basin, Fergus, and Petroleum.

The NWS advises that people turn around when encountering water-covered roads as most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

The American Red Cross has offered tips to help prepare for possible flooding.

First, heed any flood warnings. Stay away from flood waters. If you come across a flooded road, turn around if you can, and go another way. If you get caught on a flooded road, get out of the car and try to get to higher ground.

Folks should prepare their property, remove excess snow from roofs, clear drains and gutters, and move snow away from the foundation.

The Red Cross also advises creating — and practicing — a disaster plan. Talk to everyone in your household about what to do if a disaster occurs and decide where to meet and who you would contact.

Some more advice is to assemble a flood preparedness kit with a three-day supply of water and non-perishable food, a flashlight, radio, batteries, medications, and personal documents, among other items.
