(BUTTE) On Saturday at about 9:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of Browns Gulch Road for a reported theft of gas from a private residence.
A description of the vehicle was given by the complainant. Officers saw the vehicle in the area of Provost Road and Browns Gulch Road.
The driver of the vehicle turned onto Provost Road and attempted to elude the officers.
The driver then turned onto private property, where it became stuck.
The officers approached the vehicle and removed a male driver; the female passenger then lit some clothing on fire along with some gas that was inside the vehicle and ran toward the residence.
The suspect then got into a vehicle that belonged to the residence, and an officer attempted to stop the vehicle; the officers was dragged by the vehicle for what is said to be a ‘short distance.’
The officer was able to get free and fired his weapon at the vehicle; the driver then tried to driver away, but was stopped a short distance later by other officers.
The officer sustained minor injuries; no one else was injured.
The two suspects, whose names have not yet been released, are in custody and the Department of Criminal Investigations has been called in to assist in the investigation.
