The Great Falls Police Department was honored in a special event Saturday evening.
The 10th Anniversary Gala put on by the Great Falls Police Community Foundation started at 5:30 p.m. at the Meadowlark Country Club.
The president of the GFPCF said the event was one way people can show support for Great Falls officers.
“Our community is wonderful, especially in this day and age, about supporting our police department. It could be the exact opposite, but thankfully it’s not,” said Sandra Thares. “I just really want to show the officers in the crowd just how much we appreciate what they do for us.”
In their best dress, people were able to take part in silent auctions, live auctions, and some games.
“Over half of the crowd is community members. They’ve purchased individual tickets and table tickets to all come and raise money for something that’s very important to all of our way of life in keeping our community safe,” Thares said.
Each year, the money raised helps the department.
“In the past, we’ve purchased a drone to help them in surveillance out in fields so to keep officers out of harm’s way, we’ve donated," Thares said. "This year, we’re hoping to upgrade camera systems for some of the officers.”
The goal for this year was to raise $50,000.
