Flooding continues across north-central Montana as Flood Warnings remain in effect for several counties.
As of right now, areas of Blaine, Hill, Liberty, Toole, Phillips, and Valley counties are under warning.
The National Weather Service reported that the Milk River and Big Sandy Creek are still above the flood stage.
Flood Advisories are currently in effect for Meagher, Glacier, and Madison counties, which are dealing with continued snowmelt.
The NWS advises motorists to turn around when encountering flooded roads and to be especially cautious at night as it’s harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
The American Red Cross has offered tips to help prepare for possible flooding.
First, heed any flood warnings. Stay away from flood waters. If you come across a flooded road, turn around if you can, and go another way. If you get caught on a flooded road, get out of the car and try to get to higher ground.
Folks should prepare their property, remove excess snow from roofs, clear drains and gutters, and move snow away from the foundation.
The Red Cross also advises creating — and practicing — a disaster plan. Talk to everyone in your household about what to do if a disaster occurs and decide where to meet and who you would contact.
Some more advice is to assemble a flood preparedness kit with a three-day supply of water and non-perishable food, a flashlight, radio, batteries, medications, and personal documents, among other items.
