First responders continued searching near Black Eagle Dam for the body of a woman who went into the Missouri River on Monday.

Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards said they will be out for a few hours each day looking for the woman.

Edwards said the water level is higher than normal, making it more difficult for searchers.

Witnesses said they saw the woman near the caboose on the River’s Edge Trail before she was spotted in the water by dam workers.

Edwards is asking anyone who may see something in the water to call 911 immediately.

"If anyone sees something suspicious or they think they see this person or they actually find this person, please do not go into the water and try to recover," he said. "We have the equipment and the manpower to do that. Give the best description of where you are. Sometimes that is hard when you are on the trail."

He added that although they believe they know who the person is, they are not releasing her name until they have a positive identification.

(1st Report, Monday, 9:26 a.m.) Search and rescue personnel responded to a report of a person in the Missouri River on Monday morning.

Responding agencies include Great Falls Fire Rescue, Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, Black Eagle Volunteer Fire Department, and Great Falls Emergency Services.

The search activity is concentrated along the stretch of the river between the 15th Street Bridge and Black Eagle Dam, focused primarily near the dam.

At least one SAR boat is in the water, and emergency personnel can be seen walking along the top of the dam.

We have a reporter at the scene and will update you as we get more information.
