Mary Nadine Smith has been charged with a felony and two misdemeanors after being arrested for driving under the influence.
According to court documents, at approximately 6:30 PM on April 26th, Smith was pulled over after an anonymous caller informed police that Smith had gotten into her pickup truck and driven towards a bar in downtown Belt and was intoxicated, stumbling, and dropping beer cans.
When the police officer pulled Smith over it was noted that Smith had bloodshot eyes, alcohol on her breath, and had urinated on herself. The officer conducted a field sobriety test that Smith did not pass, and ultimately blew a 0.21% on the officer’s breathalyzer, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08%.
After the officer placed Smith under arrest, court documents state she became belligerent and refused to provide a blood sample, after which a warrant was obtained for a legal blood draw; those results are pending.
According to court documents, Smith has three convictions for driving under the influence -one in 1995, one 1999, and another in early 2018.
Smith has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, fourth or subsequent arrest (felony), failure to carry proof of insurance (misdemeanor), and driving with a suspended or revoked license (misdemeanor).
Smith was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to next appear in court on May 7th.
