The City of Great Falls is making an effort to teach citizens about the roles and responsibilities of those in the city departments.
In the first ever ‘City 101 Academy,’ city leaders and staff will offer classes to give citizens a glimpse of what goes on in the government.
People who sign up will learn about the roles and responsibilities of positions from city manager, city commission, and even introductions to the city’s finance, legal, public works, housing teams, and much more.
The classes will be on the last Thursday of the month starting in July and will run through December.
The six sessions will have guest speakers from Mayor Bob Kelly, to city manager Greg Doyon, and many more.
Deputy City Manager Chuck Anderson said he hopes the calss opens the lines of communication and relationships between residents, business owners, students, and the city’s government.
"One of the hopes is that they will become more active, gain a better understanding of how the local government operates, where their tax dollar go, and why it goes to a certain program or entity," Anderson said. "How to be more involved with the government, if they wanted to have an opinion on something or be part of a board, and also just to give them the opportunity to see what it is and then give up some suggestions."
If you wish to apply for the classes, you can do so by clicking here. The last day to apply is July 13.
Classes begin on July 26 in the Gibson Room at the Civic Center from 6-8:30 p.m.
