“People who grew up in Great Falls probably remember a program called ‘the park ladies’ or ‘the park grandmas’,” Get Fit Great Falls President Kim Skornogoski said.

That program ended more than a decade ago because of budget cuts, so Get Fit is hoping to bring a similar program to Great Falls by launching its third year with Park Pals.

Park Pals meets every weekday at three city parks: Rhodes Park, Carter Park, and Lion’s Park.

When the kids arrive, they are greeted by volunteers through Get Fit who help organized games, crafts, and science projects for the kids.

“Get Fits goal in starting this program up again is getting kids out of the house, away from the TV and in our parks,” Skornogoski said.

The kids are served a free lunch thanks to the partnership through the GFPS Food Truck.

Rhodes Park – 10:15 – 11:15 am
Carter Park – 11:30 – 12:30 pm
Lion’s Park – 1:00-2:00 pm

“We just have this tremendous resource in our neighborhood parks and we want to get kids out and learning how to do active play and how to have fun in the parks,” Skornogoski said.
