KALISPELL –  Water levels continue to rise on Echo Lake and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is urging boaters to safely and respectfully recreate on the lake.

The popular lake is about three miles northeast of Bigfork and has more than 695 acres of surface area. It is largely fed by groundwater and does not have an outlet.

The lake has risen approximately one foot in the last two weeks with the water level on Wednesday sitting 1.3 feet below the lowest point of the causeway road.

FWP Region One Warden Captain Lee Anderson is reminding boaters that the standard no-wake rule of at least 200-feet from the shoreline remains in place on Echo Lake.

“As water levels continue to rise, it’s important for anyone accessing the lake to be good neighbors and try to minimize the impact from boat wakes on the shoreline,” Anderson said. “Keeping a safe distance from the shore will help protect public and private property.”

He said as water levels continue to rise, it’s important for anyone accessing the lake to be good neighbors and try to minimize the impact from boat wakes on the shoreline.
