A combine is a total loss after a fire on Wagon Wheel Road near Scobey.
According to the Scobey Volunteer Fire Department, crews were called to the fire at 7:52 a.m. on Friday.
When firefighters arrived, the fire was still in the hopper of the combine with lentils burning. A tire, which had blown off and landed 20 feet away, was also burning.
A fireman climbed into the hopper to clean the majority of the lentils out while other firemen worked on cleaning out the traps and chutes.
The SVFD reported that the combine’s owner had a small fire on Thursday and extinguished it with no problem. However, something must have rekindled overnight and burned without anyone noticing.
The wind was pushing out of the north into the cut lentils so the fire didn’t have a chance to spread and was contained to the combine, according to the SVFD.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
