Police respond to “altercation” at Walmart in Great Falls

(1st Report, 4:32 p.m.) Emergency crews are responding to an incident at Walmart on 10th Avenue South near 57th Street on the east side of town.

The Great Falls Police Department, Great Falls Emergency Services, and Great Falls Fire Rescue all responded.

Traffic along 10th Avenue South is not affected at this time. People are still allowed in the store.

There is no word yet on the nature of the incident. We have a reporter on scene. We will update you with any new information.


(UPDATE, 4:51 p.m.) Justice Bronson posted this comment on the KRTV Facebook page: "The cops handled it perfect ,everyone of our customers were okay and staff. Thank you police officers for protecting everyone’s lives.! God bless."

Corrine Clausen posted: "Watched the guy get arrested for this."

The GFPD will only say that they were responding to an altercation, and have not released any other information.

We will update you when we get more details.

On the KRTV Facebook page, two people have provided details about the incident:

According to Justice Bronson: "Someone reported a suspicious man walking and it happened outside, the lady said the man held a knife to her and cut her arm a little bit. Also said someone got punched. He walked into Walmart and the cops showed up and tased him, he got arrested and taken to jail." 

Joe Ziobro posted: "I followed the guy back into the store and grabbed his wrist from over his shoulder when he approached a Walmart employee with the knife. Took him down, and another couple people helped get the knife out of his hand. I just wanted some milk….Crazy day."

We have not yet been able to confirm these details with the GFPD.

There is no word yet on the identity of the suspect.

At this point, it appears that nobody sustained life-threatening injuries.
