Bryan Keith Vaden has been charged with sexual assault following a tense situation in Great Falls on Monday evening.
At about 7 p.m., police officers went to a home on the 1700 block of 6th Street NW for a report of a suicidal man with a gun. As they were heading to the house, officers received a report that someone heard a gunshot.
Sixth Street NW was then blocked off from Northwest Bypass to Smelter Avenue by police officers, a Montana Highway Patrol trooper, and a Great Falls Fire Rescue truck.
Once the area was secured, a woman ("Jane Doe") approached and talked to the officers, and she was taken to the GFPD station to be interviewed. She told police that she and Vaden got into an argument after a young girl accused Vaden of sexual assaulting her.
Court documents say that Vaden then got a gun and said, "I might as well kill myself," at which point Doe left the house, terrified by Vaden’s actions, and afraid that he would hurt her.
Later, Vaden’s father notified Doe that Vaden had come to his (father’s) house, and the firearm had been secured. The gun was later seized by law enforcement officers. At this point, there is no confirmation that a gun was fired.
Vaden was eventually taken into custody, and refused to give a statement to police. He was then charged with partner/family member assault in Great Falls Municipal Court.
A forensic interview was then conducted with the child, who said that Vaden had put his hands in her pants and "rubbed her pee pee" which is "where she goes potty."
Vaden has been charged with one count of felony sexual assault.
(1st Report, 8:01 p.m. Monday) 6th Street NW is blocked between Northwest Bypass and Smelter by law enforcement officers.
Several Great Falls Police Department officers, at least one Montana Highway Patrol trooper, and a Great Falls Fire Rescue vehicle are blocking access.
KRTV began receiving reports of the incident at about 7:20 p.m. on Monday.
Officers have declined to release any information about what is happening, but are advising people to avoid the area until the situation is resolved.
