HELENA – The Helena nonprofit Lewis and Clark Humane Society posted on their Facebook pageThursday afternoon stating they had taken in 30 animals in one day and asked for help and donations.

According to the shelter, it costs about $3,000 a day to operate the shelter, which provides food for animals, veterinarian examinations, spay and neuter fees, the clinic, blankets, staff salaries and more.

Their post reads:

Blind faith. Blind faith is asking a lot from our supporters but we need you to trust us. Today we took in 21 dogs and 9 kittens from a family that reached out and needed help.

Within 26 minutes of receiving the phone call our staff was on their way, trucks loaded with crates, towels, and leashes. It was organized chaos but we got it done because these animals and their family needed our help. Now they need you.

Our new friends need grooming, vaccinations, spay & neuter and some time to adjust. Today has been a big day for them!  We aren’t ready to post photos of them just yet. They need some time, veterinary care, and we need to learn a little more about each and every single one of them.

We will share more soon but in the meantime we ask you to rally around us. This is going to be an expensive undertaking and one we weren’t necessarily anticipating. Our new adorable friends need some work! Can you help us? We promise to share more as soon as they’re a little more comfortable! You can donate to their care here.

Meanwhile, the Lewis & Clark County Sheriff’s Office posted this on their Facebook page:

Hope all of our followers in Helena are aware of this ordinance!

Helena City Code 5-2-6: Any person, persons, or family that keep, harbor, or maintain in or on the same premise three (3) or more dogs or cats, over 6 months of age, must obtain a kennel license. The cost is $50.00 per year.

A kennel license may be obtained at the City/County Building located at 316 N Park Ave, Room 150.

If you’d like to donate to the shelter, you can do so here. Their next fundraiser is September 14th, and is called the “Wine for Whiskers Ball“.
