With the first day of school right around the corner, three schools in the Great Falls Public Schools District have construction projects that are still ongoing.

The three schools are newly built Giant Springs Elementary, Great Falls High School, and C.M. Russell High School.

Giant Springs Elementary will be open for the first day of school on August 29th despite their kitchen not being full completed. A certified and licensed food truck will be bringing in breakfast and lunches to the students. The kitchen is set to open in approximately two weeks.

At C.M. Russell High School, they are constructing a 6000 square foot science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) facility.

Another thing being constructed in a multi-purpose facility that is being attached to the fieldhouse. It will have a gymnasium for physical education classes, athletic practices, weight room, fitness area, and a new wrestling facility.

Pride Field is also being redesigned and upgraded. The football field will be better suited not only for football games, but for health enhancement classes. Track athletes will no longer need to travel to Memorial Stadium to practice.

There are signs posted along the construction site to keep off for the safety of students, staff, and community members. The construction will disrupt parking. Construction is set to be completed by the end of September.

The construction at Great Falls High School will be the connecting the historic main campus to the fieldhouse and the south campus classroom complexes.

This will include new space for IT classes, a new cafeteria, a new family consumer science wing, and admin and counseling offices. There will also be some remodeling of the original building as well as a renovation gift that was given to them for the auditorium.

The biggest impact on staff and students will be the parking. They are putting the word out there for people to carpool.

According to Montana code, they have three years to finish the project, but their goal is to be done in two years.
