A Mercy Flight helicopter crew from Benefis Health System in Great Falls rescued an injured hiker on Sunday.
The Lewis & Clark County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that at about 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, the Dispatch center received a phone call from a person who was on a Forest Service trail.
They were in a group of nine people and one of the members had fallen and broken her ankle.
They were unable to carry her out and they were about four miles north of the Indian Meadows Trail Head northeast of Lincoln.
One of the hiking party was a member of Swan Valley Search and Rescue and had a hand-held radio with a fire frequency.
Lewis & Clark County Search and Rescue was notified. The search and rescue liaison begin to work on a plan for backup for the EMS helicopter that was called.
Mercy Flight from Great Falls was notified and responded. If the helicopter was not able to land close enough, members were on their way to assist helping the medical crew.
At around 11:50 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office was notified that Mercy Flight was able to land close enough and pick up the woman, identified as Kim Goddard.
She was taken to the hospital in Great Falls.
