The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office said on Monday that the a house fire in Sun Prairie last week does not appear to be suspicious in nature at this time, although the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The fire was reported at about 3 p.m. on the 200 block of Washington Boulevard. The house was fully engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived.

The house was a complete loss, and no injuries were reported. Also destroyed were a truck and camper that also caught fire.

Wendy Eddleman lives one street over from the fire and says her child looked out the window and saw all the smoke.

“There was just a cloud of black smoke,” said Eddleman. “It had already taken off quite a bit, the fire. And the flames were huge and there was already a truck that came up to me and asked if I had called 911 and I said yes and he couldn’t even get down the street, it was that dark of smoke. You couldn’t even drive down to the house.”

She added people who live along where the fire happened all pitched in to help.

“We did see people actually climb over the fence of the white house and grab their garden hose and start wetting down the roof and try to get the fence put out before it threatened that yard, as well. I can’t imagine the loss. It’s very sad, it’s horrible watching the house burn down just as a bystander. I can’t imagine being a homeowner. So, just band together as a community and help in that way,” said Eddleman.

Responding agencies included Sun Prairie Fire, Montana Air National Guard Fire, Vaughn Fire, Simms Fire, Gore Hill Fire, Black Eagle Fire, and the Salvation Army’s "Sally One" food truck.
