GREAT FALLS — The City-County Health Department in Great Falls said on Tuesday that there have been 12 deaths due to COVID since October 15th.
That brings the total number of deaths in Cascade County to 26 since the pandemic began.
A news release from the CCHD said that the 12 deaths were:
- 1 man in his 30s
- 1 woman in her 60s
- 1 man in his 60s
- 3 men in their 70s
- 2 woman in their 80s
- 2 men in their 80s
- 2 woman in their 90s
CCHD Health Officer Trisha Gardner said in a news release, “Our deepest sympathies go out to the loved ones of these individuals. COVID-19 has many victims beyond the official number of deaths: those who die, but also those they leave behind. We urge everyone in our community to consider the widespread toll this disease takes, and to employ every preventative measure available to them in order to protect our families, friends, neighbors, schools, and businesses. The minor inconvenience caused by wearing masks, washing hands, social distancing, and staying home when sick is far outweighed by the potential benefits to the people around us.”
Cascade County now ranks third in Montana for the number of deaths, behind Yellowstone (86) and Big Horn (36).
(NOTE: this following does not reflect the 12 new deaths reported above) There were 855 new cases and two new deaths added to the total on the Montana COVID-19 tracking site on Tuesday morning. The data below is from the official Montana website on October 27:
- TOTAL CASES & RECOVERIES: There have been 29,346 cumulative cases, with 18,981 people now listed as recovered.
- HOSPITALIZATIONS: There are 350 current hospitalizations, and a cumulative total of 1,245 hospitalizations.
- DEATHS: The cumulative number of deaths in Montana is now 305.
- ACTIVE CASES: There are currently 10,060 active COVID-19 cases in Montana.
- TESTING: There were 4,997 completed tests, for a new cumulative state-wide total of 481,322.
Numbers reported by the state each day occasionally differ from those reported by county public health departments due to periodic lag times in reporting data to the state. We encourage people to check the official website and/or Facebook page of their respective county health department for any information that is not yet included in the state's daily updates. Based on additional data from county health departments, MTN News reports the following:
- Deaths: 326 (+21 from state)
- Active: 9,012 (-1,048 from state)
- Recoveries: 20,508 (+1,527 from state)
- Total Cases: 29,846 (+500 from state)
It's important to note that not every person who tests positive actually becomes ill or exhibits symptoms. Many do not; of those who do become sick, some experience mild symptoms and do not require hospitalization. Others, however, do require hospitalization, as noted in the daily update on the number of people hospitalized. However, every person who does test positive for COVID-19 has the potential to spread the virus to other people, including family members and friends, which is why public health officials continue to encourage everyone to wear a mask and maintain at least the recommended six feet of "social distance" when in public.
