Montana state health officials report Monday a new single day record high number of COVID-19 cases at 56, eclipsing the previous record of 35.
Yellowstone County had the highest number of new cases Monday with 14, followed by Gallatin County at 13, according to the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map.
Glacier County reported nine new cases, Flathead County has six new cases, and Ravalli County added four new cases.
Custer and Richland counties reported two new cases each, and one new case was reported in each Big Horn, Cascade, Granite, Lincoln, Stillwater, and Valley counties.
The previous single day record high was reported June 24 at 37, but state officials later adjusted the number to 35. There were also 35 new cases on March 26.

The total cumulative number of cases in Montana is now 919, according to state health officials. MTN is reporting one fewer total case and one fewer recovered case due to a case in Jefferson County that local health authorities report involved a patient who was not in the state.
There is also a descrepancy between Missoula and state health officials. County health officials report 73 total cases with 29 active. The state is reporting 66 total cases with 24 active. MTN is reporting the numbers provided by county health officials.
The number of recoveries is now 609, and the state has 13 people currently hospitalized with the virus. There were 6,479 new tests over the previous 24-hour reporting period for a total number of tests statewide at 88,743. The death toll remains at 22.
There are now 288 active COVID-19 cases in the state, according to state health officials. Yellowstone and Gallatin counties each have 55 active cases. Big Horn County now has 32 active cases and Missoula County has 24 active cases. Flathead County has 16 active cases, while Glacier County has 12 and Cascade County has 11 active cases. Custer and Ravalli counties each have 10 active cases.
