(UPDATE, JANUARY 22) Great Falls Fire Rescue said in a news release that responding firefighters saw "moderate" dark smoke coming from the roof area and roof vent of the building.
The fire was located primarily in the kitchen area near ceiling, with fire extending into the roof. The fire was brought under control in less than 10 minutes.
Northwestern Energy responded to shut off and secure gas and electrical service.
GFFR says the fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen and roof area, and heat and smoke damage impacted much of the interior building of Howard's Pizza. Next door, the Stein Haus had minimal smoke damage.
The cause and origin of the fire is still being investigated, and appears to be accidental in nature.
