It's time to light up the night with the annual Great Falls Luminaria Walk, which celebrates the River's Edge Trail.

This year the trail will be lined with 1,500 paper luminarias, food vendors, and performers.

CMR High School junior Kailey Dunbar is returning to the walk for the fourth time, sharing her talents and treats with the community. The young violist "pays it forward" by using the gratuities she receives for the good of Great Falls.

Dunbar explained, "Those donations, I save up and then use that money to make snacks for the next year, so when that time comes for the next Luminaria walk, we'll make brownies and cookies, and then we leave them out on a little table and people will take what they want and pay what they can. "

Walkers can listen to her play on Saturday(August 24) from 7 p.m. To 11 p.m. along the Luminaria Walk.

River Drive from 9th Street North to Central Avenue West will be closed from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. for the event.

From the River's Edge Trail page on Facebook:

In 1993 the Luminaria Walk began with 200 Luminarias lighting the trail near the caboose as the first annual Luminaria Walk sponsored by the River's Edge Trail. In 2019 over 1000 luminarias have been decorated / colored and will line the trail for the Saturday, August 24th event from 7:00 - 11:00 pm. The luminaria bags are decorated by students from many schools in Great Falls.

This is a FREE family-friendly event. There will be food and music along the trail to enjoy. Pets are welcomed but please follow the rules of the trail and have them on a leash and pick up after them.

This year the River's Edge Trail Foundation will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a custom Bisonfish Jersey worn in this year's Bisonfish game at the Great Falls Voyagers. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 and can be purchased from from the Foundation's table in Gibson or or West Bank Park. Winners will be announced at the after party happening at the Big Mouth BBQ at the Front.
