GREAT FALLS — The Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center is hosting a Kid’s Fall Animal Camp to teach children the importance of taking care of our four-legged friends.
On Thursday, October 15th, and Friday, October 16th, kids enrolled in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade can take part in a fun and educational workshop designed to teach the responsibility of owning and taking care of a pet.
The attendees will enjoy time with animals, fun games, and art activities, along with humane educational lessons and several guest speakers.
Emily Spriggs, the facility's administrative manager, said, "You know you hear a lot about kids saying after the camp they want to be a vet when they grow up or they want to work with animals when they grow up, so that's really rewarding to know we're kind of making that difference and just showing kids what it takes to care for animals and also what it means."
Spriggs explained, "We started this a few years ago, just as an extension of our mission. Part of it is enhancing compassion through education, so that means educating the younger generation about what animal care means and the responsibility of it."
She added, "I think it's really good for kids who aren't able to have animals at home because of allergies, or landlords, or whatever, and they get a chance to play with the animals and learn about them too."
For health and safety, kids will need to bring their own lunch and water bottle and will need their own transportation. Some snacks will be provided.
The camp runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and offers additional extended care hours that you can purchase in one hour increments to best fit your schedule.
The cost to attend is $75 and the deadline to sign up is Monday, October 12th. If you plan on enrolling more than one child, you can receive 20% off the cost of the second camp fee.
