GREAT FALLS — KRTV received the following message from a Great Falls resident on Friday warning of a scam.

This morning I received a call from an individual claiming to be with Verizon Wireless. He stated that they were doing some upgrades to towers in the area and that it would be impacting services. He then stated that as compensation for the interruption they were crediting consumers 50 dollars on their monthly bill. I was then sent a text with a 8 digit code.

After providing the code I then began to get the feeling that this was a scam. I then started seeing emails stating my account password and security questions were changed.

I immediately contacted Verizon wireless and regained control of my account. I normally can sense a scam pretty easy but, this guy was good. Scary good.

This individual who compromised my account could have cost me thousands of dollars had I not realized what was going on.

I just thought I would pass this along so others can be warned.
