Isolation leads to increase in business for Mother's Day

GREAT FALLS — Two Great Falls businesses saw plenty of Mother's Day orders from customers this week despite the fact that social distancing is keeping many families at a distance from their loved ones.

Bloom & Bean owner Rebecca Hannant said she expects the store received twice as much business as last year. “This year is a lot busier. i haven't looked at the books yet, but i'd say (it) at least doubled,” Hannant said.

Hannant predicted the boom in business stems from the public’s pandemic-inspired decision to make regular events more meaningful.

“I think people are wanting to give and they’re not going to take things for granted just because of the COVID scare,” Hannant said.

Even though customers couldn't hand-select their favorite treats inside Candy Masterpiece, several Great Falls residents made last minute Mother’s Day stops to the candy shop.

Candy Masterpiece Owner Angie Bruskotter said the giving spirit of her customers is one of the sweet trends she’s seen during this pandemic.

“People are remembering those around them...they’re remembering to take care of ourselves and those around us and so all of a sudden it’s ‘I need to get a gift for them!’,” Bruskotter said.

Both stores will be open on Mother’s Day to help with last minute shopping needs.

“Last minute customers are always fun...we’ll help anybody who needs to get something for their moms,” Bruskotter said.

“I try my hardest to have the cooler stocked. I also have plants that are pre-done and hanging baskets so we always have something we can do for mom,” Hannant said.

Bloom and Bean is located at 1012 9th Street South. You can call them at 406-453-0866 for their Mother’s Day hours.

Candy Masterpiece is located at 120 Central Avenue and will be open from 10 am to 4:30 p.m.
