GREAT FALLS — Each Saturday, Pet-Paw-See cats are available for adoption from 1 to 4 pm at Petco and Petsmart in Great Falls.

But starting this January, Pet Paw-See will launch their brand new ‘Cat of the Month’ program to ensure that harder to place cats get a shot at finding a forever friend and home.

Lifelong cat-lover and Pet Paw-See volunteer Clarissa Hunnewell hopes the new year will bring new adoption opportunities for cats in need.

“It's really for our hard to place cats, so the cats that have been with us the longest. We have some that have been with us for over a year and they just don’t get exposure like they need to. you know we’re only here once a week and that's just not enough sometimes,” Hunnewell said.

January's ‘Cat of the Month’ will be featured in store next Saturday.

Featured cats will have specially decorated cages and gift baskets with some of their favorite toys.

While one special cat will be featured each month, several other Paw-See cats will be adoptable on a weekly basis.

Since many of the cats the organization brings are homeless or in need of medical attention that can be very costly, the organization imposes an $80 adoption fee per cat.

“The cats that we bring in usually require care right away - from frost bite, to being hit by a car, to rotten teeth...We make sure they’re up to date on their shots, they’re de-wormed.,” Hunnewell said.

The cats’ various medical and veterinary expenses cost the nonprofit cat organization approximately $100,000 each year.
