The U.S. Department of Agriculture is offering financial assistance to producers willing to enhance wetlands on agricultural lands.

The goal is to restore wetlands and improve water quality downstream while also improving wildlife habitat.

The USDA hopes the assistance will help with flood prevention as well as add recreational benefits to area communities.

Funding will be provided through the wetland reserve enhancement partnership, which is part of the agricultural conservation easement program and farm bill conservation program.

Proposals should be emailed to the National Resources Conservation Service by June 14, 2019.

Heavy, late season rains in central California may have damaged the region’s strawberry crop.

Recent rain has left much of the region’s strawberry crop unacceptable for markets.

Some of the berries can be turned into juice, but farmers warn there could be a shortage soon.

In other news, the Montana Department of Agriculture is hiring with openings for a grant contracts coordinator and training development specialist.

Both positions are based out of Helena.

Applications for the training development specialist will be accepted until May 24th while grant contracts coordinator applications are due May 28th.
