LIVINGSTON — An armed standoff in Livingston continues Wednesday morning, causing the cancellation of classes at schools in the area and the evacuation of some residents.
The Park County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that deputies attempted to serve a court-ordered eviction around 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday to 49-year-old Michael Marfuta.
Deputies attempted to serve the eviction while Marfuta was away from the residence. He fled and later confronted the deputies with a knife back at his residence. Livingston Police arrived on scene to assist in securing the area and negotiating a peaceful resolution with Marfuta.
The Gallatin County Special Response Team was eventually called in when it became apparent law enforcement could not reach a resolution with Marfuta.
Marfuta fired a gun at officers outside his residence during the standoff. No one was injured and deputies did not return fire.
The news release said a warrant has been issued for Marfuta's arrest on charges of assault with a weapon and obstructing a peace officer.
Residents who were evacuated are being sheltered by Park County Emergency Management.
According to a Livingston School District update, there will be no school at Eastside Elementary School, Sleeping Giant Middle School, and Park High School on Wednesday, including online schooling.
Washington Elementary School and Winans Elementary School will remain open on Wednesday, and buses will run as usual, according to the school district's update.
