BILLINGS — An injured police officer was released from the hospital Wednesday, the Billings Police Deparment said in a press release.

Officer Jeremiah Adams was seriously injured Saturday when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 14-year old boy.

The 14-year-old was arrested and is being held on a possible charge of attempted deliberate homicide.

Adams, who works with a K9 partner named Susan, underwent surgery to reconstruct his left leg, including the placement of a metal rod, plates, and screws, according to the press release.

BPD spokesman Lt. Brandon Wooley said Adams is expected to return to full duty after five to six months of recovery.

The news release also noted: "While the BPD is saddened to see any Officer injured in the line of duty, we are very grateful the outcome was not worse."

"K9 Susan was not injured in the incident and will remain at Officer Adams' side while he recovers," Wooley said in the press release. "Also, it's likely she will enjoy some couch time and lots of belly rubs for the next few months."

(FEBRUARY 15, 2020) The Billings Police Department said on Saturday that a 14-year old male has been charged with attempted deliberate homicide after reportedly hitting a police officer while driving a vehicle.

The BPD said in a press release that it happened at about 1:12 a.m. on Saturday, February 15th, as officers were trying to apprehend a vehicle that had sped away from them several times earlier. They found the vehicle in the area of Bernard south of Monad.

According to the BFPD, the vehicle was facing stopped and facing toward the officers, and the officers were giving commands to the occupants of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle then accelerated and drove straight at the officers, hitting one of them. The 35-year old officer sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries, and was taken to a Billings hospital by ambulance for surgery. The name of the officer has not yet been released.

The driver of the suspect vehicle continued northbound and crashed nearby.

The occupants got out and ran away, but were all quickly caught.

Six people were apprehended: five were juvenile females from Billings between the ages of 13 and 16.

The driver, a 14-year old male from Billings, was remanded into youth services and is facing a charge of attempted deliberate homicide.

Police have not yet released the name of the driver.

We do not yet know if the other occupants of the vehicle will face criminal charges.
