GREAT FALLS — Extreme winds will sweep across Montana on Thursday. Sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph are likely for Central Montana with gusts over 60 mph.
These conditions have warranted the National Weather Service to issue a High Wind Warning for nearly all of Central Montana.
The strong winds will help to keep temperatures in the low to mid 60s for our area. Extreme caution should be used if driving a high profile vehicle today, especially along the Rocky Mountain Front.
Widespread rain is also expected with the passage of today's cold front and snow is likely above 7,000 feet.
Even colder air will invade the state on Friday. This will be met head on by significant moisture being drawn from the Pacific Ocean. These colliding weather systems are expected to produce significant snow for a good chunk of Central Montana.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Glacier, Pondera, Teton, Toole, and Lewis & Clark Counties. This will go into effect Friday afternoon and last through the weekend.
Blizzard-like conditions are expected for this region along with record low temperatures and snow accumulation in upwards of a foot.
The snow and cold will last through the weekend, finally letting up on Tuesday.
