Big weather changes are headed to Montana. After another day with record highs, the temperatures and wind will come down for Friday. Under mostly cloudy skies, highs will be in the 40s and 50s with a light northeast wind. The only area with a little wet snow will be near East Glacier and Cut Bank. Marias Pass could be slippery.
Saturday will be fairly quiet for most of the day as well. Skies will be cloudy, and only the East Glacier area will see some snow. That is until later Saturday evening when snow will spread throughout much of western and central Montana. Temperatures will drop quickly and the snow will fall heavily at times through the overnight.
More than half a foot could accumulate by Sunday morning. Sunday will be a cold, snowy and windy day for most of the state.
The storm will intensify through the day with snowfall rates and wind increasing. North-central and northeast Montana will likely have blizzard conditions with whiteouts on the roads. Highs will only be in the 10s and 20s, but wind chills could drop well below 0.
Travel is not recommended later Sunday along the Hi-Line and in central Montana - it's looking one of those bad winter storms. Snow will continue Sunday night before tapering off from west to east on Monday morning. Cold temperatures and wind will keep continue creating poor road conditions, even after the snow stops.
Another couple of weak disturbances will move through Tuesday and Wednesday with scattered snow showers and a light accumulation possible.
Cold weather with highs in the 20s and 30s will prevail all of next week into the following weekend.
